Meet the Artist
My Story
ʔi, ti dsyaʔyaʔ (Hello, friend!)
I'm Nakesha “tsi yaʔqwaʔwas” Edwards, an enrolled Swinomish tribal member with ties to; Upper Skagit, Samish, Snoqualmie, Yakama, and Klamath. I was 14 years young when I began my journey as a Coast Salish artist. I highlighted in my high school senior presentation my journey as an emerging Coast Salish Artist. During my time as an undergrad, at the Institute of American Indian Arts, I emphasized in my ILS Senior Research Project the importance of Coast Salish Carving for Coast Salish Peoples. I also had opportunities to model for friends during this time in my life. Since returning home in 2022, my artwork has touched many locations in Skagit County. Once I graduated with my masters in Indigenous Peoples Law from The University of Oklahoma in 2023, I started sharing my artwork with the world more. In 2024, I officially opened my art business!
tsi yaʔqwaʔwas Creations include wood carvings, digital prints, hand-painted wall decor, tattoo designs, and limited editions.
